Betting on Shorts presents a selective programme of multi-awarded short-films derived from its archive at the 7th audiovisual festival of Experimental Video and Creative Documentary Strange Screen which will be held from the 14th to 18th of October 2008 at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, Greece.
BoSs programme is curated by Konstantinos Stefanis, Ricarda Vidal and Irini Marinaki.
Strange Screen presents to the audience audiovisual projects made by new artist filmmakers from all over the world who experiment with image, rhythm and structure in film in order to explore new forms and discover new filmic codes using older or new techniques and methods.
This year’s programme includes documentary films, experimental films, special screenings, retrospectives, video art, lectures, workshops and music performances.
Competition section with experimental and creative documentary films (45 films participate in competition).
Open Screen section with films out of competition (11 films).
Special screening with a selection of awarded short films of the international festival Betting on shorts (BoSs).
A retrospective to the avant guard filmmaker Kostas Sfikas with 7 screenings (5 films and 2 short films).
A lecture given on the unique characteristics of Kostas Sfika’s filmmaking by the theorist Savvas Michael.
A retrospective to the British filmmaker Nick Collins that consists 14 films showing on 16 mm.
POETIC AND FORMAL CINEMA Workshop by Nick Collins.
Music “epi topou” is the screening of the silent movie “Mysterien eines frisiersalons” (1932) of Berthold Brecht with live music performed by the musicians Sakis Papadimitriou and Christos Germenoglou.
